Weekly Recap: Editing, Tech Week, and a Dungeon Crawler

Well, it’s Sunday again.

And somehow, October is already getting away from me.

This week involved a little writing, a LOT of editing, the official start of tech week, and a Halloween costume that probably makes absolutely no sense to anyone who hasn’t read Dungeon Crawler Carl.

So, you know. A pretty normal week around here. πŸ˜‚

A Little Writing. A LOT of Editing.

I didn’t get a ton of new writing done this week, but I definitely made up for it in editing.

I’ve spent a ridiculous amount of time working on Unraveled Prophecies lately. Going through chapters, making changes, checking continuity, fixing things that didn’t quite work, and occasionally wondering how I managed to create an entire world with so many details to keep track of.

There are times when I miss writing contemporary fiction simply because I didn’t have to worry about whether something a character said in Chapter 4 contradicted an entire magical system I’d established twenty chapters later. πŸ˜‚

But I also love it.

I’ve gotten so attached to this world and these characters over the last year and a half, and it’s been exciting watching everything come together.

And that’s about all I’m going to tell you right now.

Because…

There’s a MAJOR Unraveled Prophecies update coming this week.

I’ve been sitting on some news, and I’m finally getting ready to share it.

No spoilers today.

You’ll just have to stay tuned. πŸ‘€

Tech Week Has Officially Begun

Yesterday, we officially started tech week for The Little Mermaid Jr.

If you’ve ever been involved in theater, you already know what that means.

We’re entering that wonderful stage of production where all the pieces we’ve spent weeks working on finally have to come together.

Sets. Costumes. Lights. Sound. Rehearsals. Last-minute changes. And the inevitable moment when somebody realizes there’s something we completely forgot about.

Because it’s not really tech week unless there’s at least a little chaos. πŸ˜‚

But this is also one of my favorite parts of theater.

There’s something pretty amazing about watching a group of kids take everything they’ve been working on and turn it into an actual production.

All those rehearsals, all the little corrections, all the moments when something didn’t work and we had to figure out how to fix it…this is when we finally start seeing the results.

And yes, I’m going to be exhausted by the time we reach opening night.

I’ll probably question some of my life choices along the way.

But I’ll also be ridiculously proud of these kids.

That’s what keeps bringing me back.

Halloween Party #2: Welcome to the Dungeon

And because it’s October, there was also another Halloween party.

This time, I went as Dungeon Crawler Carl.

If you’ve been following my reading updates, you know I’ve spent a pretty significant amount of time with this series lately.

And if you’ve read the books, you also know that dressing as Carl is a pretty ridiculous choice.

Which is exactly why I wanted to do it. πŸ˜‚

I’ve had a lot of fun putting the costume together, including creating my own Dungeon Crawler Carl-inspired achievement.

Because you can’t dress as Carl without at least one ridiculous achievement notification.

And after putting the costume together, I think I deserved a reward.

Preferably one involving sitting down, relaxing, and having a few drinks without anyone expecting me to fight monsters, complete quests, or save the world.

Although, considering tech week just started, I might be asking a little too much.

Honestly, there’s probably a dungeon achievement for voluntarily scheduling a Halloween party during theater season.

And I would absolutely earn it. πŸ˜‚

Looking Ahead

This coming week is going to be interesting.

Tech week is in full swing, which means a lot of my time and energy will be going toward getting The Little Mermaid Jr. ready for the stage.

I’m also going to try to keep up with the usual writing and editing whenever I can find a little time.

And, of course, there’s that Unraveled Prophecies announcement I’ve been teasing.

I’m excited about this one.

I’ve spent a long time working on this project, and I’m finally getting to a point where I can start sharing some of the things I’ve been keeping to myself.

But you’ll have to wait a little longer.

For now, I’m going to enjoy what little downtime I can find before the next round of theater chaos begins.

And maybe read a little.

Because apparently, even when my schedule is completely ridiculous, I can still find time to get emotionally invested in fictional people.

Priorities. πŸ˜‚
