One of the Guys (#BeYourself Book Two)

Some stories don’t end with one book—they grow, deepen, and demand to be told in full. One of the Guys continues the emotional journey started in Out on the Ice, but this time, the spotlight shifts to someone who’s been quietly carrying the weight of the world: Cami.

About the Book

Everyone thinks they know Cami.

The bubbly friend. The supportive classmate. The girl who’s always there.

But no one knows the truth.

Cami is still reeling from the loss of her brother to suicide, determined to make their school a safer, more supportive place for her friends—especially Jace and Gavin, who’ve endured endless ridicule for being themselves. But while she’s helping everyone else, she’s hiding a secret of her own: she doesn’t feel like the girl everyone assumes she is.

Terrified of the same hate and cruelty her friends have faced, Cami keeps her true identity locked away. That is, until Ethan—Gavin’s former best friend—unexpectedly becomes the first person she can trust. As Ethan sheds the toxicity of his old relationship and works to repair the damage he caused, a fragile but powerful connection begins to form between them.

But secrets have a way of breaking you from the inside.

When Cami suddenly disappears, her friends are left desperate for answers. And even when she’s found, the struggle isn’t over—self-harm and self-doubt still haunt her. To truly heal, Cam will have to take the scariest step of all: to be honest, to be vulnerable, and to finally be one of the guys.

One of the Guys is a heartfelt continuation of the #BeYourself Trilogy, exploring identity, mental health, and the courage it takes to step out of the shadows and live your truth.

Why I Wrote This Story

Cam’s story was always waiting beneath the surface in Out on the Ice. She’s the glue for her friends, the one holding everyone else together—but what happens when the “strong one” starts to break?

This book is about the quiet heroes in our lives, the ones who smile even when it hurts, and about the bravery it takes to finally say, “This is who I am.” Writing One of the Guys was raw and emotional, and I hope it reaches the hearts of readers who’ve ever felt the pressure to hide their true selves.
