8,972 Words, A Celebration of Life, and Chlorine in My Hair: A Day in the Life of a Writer-Mom
Today was one of those rare, strange, wonderful days that felt like three days packed into one.
I started my morning writing. No plan, no pressure—just me, my keyboard, and characters who apparently had a lot to say. I blinked, and suddenly… 8,972 words were on the page. A new personal record. Nearly 9K words in a day. I’ve never done that before.
And here’s the wild part: writing wasn’t the only thing I did today.
🌸 Honoring a Life
This afternoon, I stepped away from the screen to attend a celebration of life. It was emotional, grounding, and a powerful reminder of how fragile and beautiful this life really is. It felt like a pause—a quiet inhale in the middle of an otherwise busy day.
There’s something about honoring someone’s story that makes you want to pour even more honesty into your own.
💦 Family First
After that? I jumped into a swimsuit and took the kids swimming. Laughter, splashes, the smell of sunscreen—and yes, chlorine in my hair. It was exactly what we needed. Not just a break, but joy. Presence.
It’s funny: I lived a full day away from the page, and yet somehow the words still came. Fast. Furious. Free.
✍️ The Writing Magic
So how did I manage 8,972 words between grief, kids, and water wings?
-
I wrote in short, focused sprints. 20 minutes here, 15 there.
-
I let go of perfection.
-
I followed the emotions. Today’s scenes were intense—and writing them felt like therapy.
The words weren’t perfect, but they were alive. And that’s enough.
💙 Final Thoughts
Life isn’t either/or. It’s not productivity vs. presence. It’s both. It’s writing nearly 9,000 words while still making space to honor someone’s memory and do cannonballs with your kids.
So tonight, I’m tired. My heart is full. My document is messy and chaotic and probably full of typos. But you know what? I showed up—for my story, my family, and myself.
And that feels like a win.
Have you ever had a day where life and writing collided in the best possible way? What’s your personal best word count? Let’s celebrate the small and big victories together.
