Dying to Fit In (#BeYourself Book Three)
The final chapter of the #BeYourself Trilogy dives into the quiet pain of living in someone else’s shadow—and the dangerous lengths we go to in order to belong.
About the Book
Miles has always been the “less-than” son.
Not as athletic as his older brother.
Not as smart.
Not as perfect.
He struggles in school, he’s never fit the athlete mold his family expected, and every glance in the mirror reminds him of all the ways he doesn’t measure up. But it isn’t until tragedy strikes—when his best friend is bullied to the point of suicide—that Miles finally starts to question who he really is… and who he wants to be.
When he meets Jeremy, a charismatic and talented musician who seems to have it all, Miles begins to see a different path for himself. But beneath Jeremy’s charm is a battle with addiction and the crushing weight of expectation. Drawn together by their shared struggles, the two form a bond that’s as fragile as it is life-changing.
As Miles helps Jeremy fight his demons, he begins his own journey toward self-worth, taking drastic steps to change his body in the hope of finally being “enough.” But the pursuit of perfection quickly turns dangerous. Just before Jeremy’s biggest performance, Miles ends up in the hospital—forcing them both to face the truths they’ve been running from.
Dying to Fit In is a raw, emotional conclusion to the #BeYourself Trilogy, exploring the cost of societal pressure, the pain of hiding who you are, and the courage it takes to find yourself in a world that demands perfection.
Why I Wrote This Story
Miles’s journey is one so many people face in silence—struggling with self-worth, identity, and the need to belong. This book is about the quiet, desperate fight for acceptance, both from the world and from ourselves. It’s about friendship, love, and the dangerous edge between wanting to change and losing yourself entirely.
Writing Dying to Fit In was an emotional experience because it brought the trilogy full circle. These characters became a reflection of the very real struggles so many teens face, and my hope is that their stories spark connection, empathy, and hope.
