Chaotic Life

Organized Chaos

Every once in a while someone asks me, “How do you find time to write?”

I usually laugh.

Because the truth is… I don’t really find time. I steal it whenever I can.

Right now my life is a little ridiculous.

I’m trying to finish writing the ending of Heir of the Forgotten. I’m at that point where all the storylines are coming together, characters are making decisions that will affect the rest of the series, and I should be completely focused on getting to the end.

At the exact same time, I’m editing Scars Fade.

So my brain is bouncing back and forth between ancient prophecies, hidden magic, and fantasy battles… to Rory, Liam, and some of the most emotional scenes I’ve ever written.

It’s… interesting.

Then there’s theater.

We’re right in the middle of performance weekends for one show, while already starting another production. Theater has been a huge part of my life for years, and I absolutely love it, but if you’ve ever been involved in community theater, you know there’s no such thing as downtime. By the time one show is on stage, you’re already thinking about the next one.

Add in real life…

One kid needs rides to and from work constantly.

Another kid and I have AEW tickets in a suite for the upcoming pay-per-view, which we’re ridiculously excited about since we didn’t get to any shows last year.

My youngest is getting ready to go back to traditional school for the first time in two years, which is exciting, nerve-wracking, and honestly a little emotional. On top of that, they’re also getting ready for auditions for our fall theater production.

Somewhere in there I’m supposed to grocery shop, do laundry, answer emails, keep up with social media, and maybe even remember to eat something besides Monster.

The funny thing is…

People picture authors sitting in these beautiful, quiet offices where inspiration magically appears.

Meanwhile I’m over here writing in the parking lot while waiting to pick someone up.

Or scribbling ideas in a notebook between rehearsals.

Or editing a chapter after everyone else has gone to bed because it’s finally quiet.

Is it glamorous?

Not even a little.

Would I change it?

Honestly… no.

It’s chaotic. It’s loud. It’s busy. Sometimes I have six different things pulling me in six different directions.

But it’s also my life.

And somehow, between all of it, these stories keep getting written.

Now if you’ll excuse me…

I should probably get back to Heir of the Forgotten before another shiny idea distracts me.

…Although I also have an idea for another blog post.

See? This is exactly what I’m talking about.
